The little gem that is Frankie's Piccolo Bistro is expanding. Bowing to the renewed interest in ballroom dancing, owner Bob Matrone and his son, and chef, Robert Anthony, are incorporating the adjacent space that once housed Mezzanotte at 658 N. Salina St. They call it Venue 658.
"We are just waiting for our liquor license," reported son Anthony Matrone, who also works in the family business. Once it's up and running, the Matrones plan to host a weekly "Dinner and a Dance" for six weeks. Each evening will include a one-hour group dance lesson and dinner for two for $85. Tickets for singles are $45. A flyer sets the date of Monday, May 17, with hours to be announced. Registration is required on or before Saturday, May 15. "Tapas will be available for snacking in between dances," said the younger Matrone.
Venue 658 will also be available for banquets and parties within its two-floor space, where more than one event may be held concurrently- up to 100 on the main floor and up to 75 in the basement area. For information or tickets to Dinner and a Dance, call 479-8797.
