Super Mustang: A Better Idea Too Far Ahead of Its Time

Ford commissioned this wild "Top Fueler of the future," dubbed the Super Mustang, for the 1967 season. Dick Brannan, far left, and Chuck Foulger, far right, from Ford Special Vehicles were heavily involved in the car, which was driven by Tom McEwen, second from left. Connie Kalitta, second from right, who was running Ford's SOHC 427 in Top Fuel, built the car's injected engine.
