Sydney P Nemiroff, 84, a public-relations director, died April 18. His wife, Carolyn Wartell Nemiroff, 78, a preschool educator, died April 23.

Sydney Nemiroff grew up in Philadelphia. He spent his childhood in Strawberry Mansion and attended Central High School.

He served in the Navy during World War II as a Sea Bee and - then attended Temple University, where he graduated with a degree in journalism.

Sydney worked for the City of Philadelphia, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia as a public-relations director and as the director of public relations for Temple University Hospital, among other positions.

In 1951, when taking graduate claásés at Temple University, he met and fell in love with Carolyn Wartell, then a Temple University freshman.

Carolyn Wartell Nemiroff was born in Scranton, Pa., and graduated from Central High School there.

She attended Temple University attaining degrees in theater, early-childhood education and, ultimately, an Ed.D. in educational psychology.

She founded and owned a number of schools, beginning with First Season (Hatboro), First Season (Quakertown), Leaves of Graás (Center City, Philadelphia) and First Season (Lawrenceville, N.J.).

Carolyn dedicated her career to academic preschool education.

Sydney and Carolyn are survived by a daughter, Rabbi Lauren Nemiroff Levy; son Robert Jay Nemiroff; and four grandchildren. Carolyn is also survived by a brother, Matthew Wartell.
