NEW YORK (JTA) ? The valedictorian at a California high school has planned to deliver her graduation address via a pre-recorded message in order to observe Shavuot.

Carolyn Fine worked out the arrangements with Vacaville High School officials, according to The Reporter, Vacaville's local newspaper. "They really took good care of me," Fine told the paper, regarding school administrators. "They've been very understanding."

She decided to have her address recorded so as not to have to use a microphone. Fine planned to walk to the June 9 ceremony to avoid riding on the holiday.

Fine, who says she's gradually become observant, plans to attend Yeshiva University's Stern College for women in New York in the fall and study math.
