EDITOR'S MESSAGE

Publication: Journal of the Association for Vascular Access
Author: Davis, Lois
Date published: October 1, 2011

Those of you who missed the 2011 AVA Scientific Meeting missed another great opportunity to visit the JAVA booth and speak with our Associate Editors about publishing in the journal. We received many inquiries and information from potential authors. We also reviewed the posters with an eye towards publication. Many of the poster presentations have a lot of potential to be developed into manuscripts. I put out a "call for reviewers" during the conference and am very pleased by the response. I will be contacting the people who stopped by the booth with publication questions, the poster presenters and the people that expressed an interest in becoming a reviewer soon. I would like to welcome James C. Merritt and Mark R. Hunter to the JAVA Editorial Review Board. I am still looking for reviewers. You can find information and an application at the AVA web site. www.avainfo.org under the publications tab.

I have launched a new column in this winter issue called "A Patient/Consumer Perspective." The purpose of this column is to hear and learn from people who have experienced having or living with a vascular access device. The lessons that we can learn are invaluable and will only help to make us better vascular access professionals. Our first story comes from a member of the Oley Foundation. I encourage you to provide stories from people you know or for whom you have provided care. You can submit them on behalf of someone or have them write it themselves

You will also find a "Letter to the Editor" in this issue that speaks about the importance of collecting data. I hope you find it insightful. I also encourage others to write Letters to the Editor.
