New Year customs

More than 100 people saw in New Year's Day by filling out a tax return at their computer, HM Revenue and Customs figures revealed.

As clocks chimed and champagne corks popped, 102 people submitted their selfassessment forms in the final hour of 2011.

Nearly 12,000 people in total took time out of their New Year's Eve celebrations to fill out their returns across the day.
