Former Mexican national soccer team goalkeeper Omar "El Gato" Ortiz, 35, was arrested on suspicion of participating in a major kidnapping ring that is wanted in the abduction of 20 people, including the husband of Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi. Ortiz allegedly selected the wealthy victims from the social circle in which he traveled. ?? Professional skateboarder Jereme Rogers, 26, an X Games fi xture who attributes his talents to divine intervention, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge after trashing a New York City hotel room. Rogers blamed his naked rampage on some hangover pills. "I thought I was saving the world," he said. ?? Dustin Wesley Cook, 36, a competitive target shooter, was arraigned on one charge of aggravated assault in the accidental shooting of two boys outside Harwell Middle School in Edinburg, Texas. Cook admitted he had been target practicing in a direction aligned straight toward the school. "I need the public to know that this was not a deranged shooter out there shooting children or some careless hunter shooting in the direction of a school, but it was a target shooter," explained Hidalgo County sheriff Lupe Treviño, who apparently did not want to impugn the reputations of deranged shooters and careless hunters.
