Lloyd Vann Seawell, DRA, a noted healthcare finance author and longtime member of HFMA, passed away on Jan. ? mRloomington, Ind. Seawell was 81.

Aleader in hospital accounting practices, Seawell and HFMA worked together in the 1 9 60s to deliver books and published materials for healthcare finance and accounting professionals. HFMA recognizes Seawell's contributions to healthcare finance publishing with the annual Helen Yerger/ L. Vann Seawell Rest Article Award for outstanding editorial achievement in hfm.

Seawell's books, Principles of Hospital Accounting and Hospital Accounting and Financial Management, proved to be popular among finance and accounting professionals who valued professional development. Seawell wrote with a financial, rather than administrative, approach and developed material so readers would earn the equivalent of taking one college -level course in accounting.

Seawell was a professor emeritus at the Indiana University School of Business, where he taught from 1953 to 1994.
