Following on from The Station Agent and The Visitor, Thomas McCarthy's third film as director is another small-town drama with a big beating heart Paul Giamatti does his usual doleful thing as a struggling sports coach/lawyer; Alex Shaffer Is the forme r wrestling champ who comes into his life after Giamatti agrees to become his grandfather's guardian.

Despite its sports-drama beats it moves to a defiantly indie rhythm.
