In addition to his duties on the road as a track specialist for Don Schumacher Racing, Tommy Johnson Jr. stays busy at the organization's Brownsburg, Ind., facility running a unique, one-stop shop for the seven Top Fuel and Funny Car teams and 125 DSR employees. T.J., who has scored wins in both nitro classes as a driver, researches the best deals on highvolume parts (e.g., seals, O-rings, hardware) and general items (e.g., paper towels, lubricants, brake-parts cleaner, hand cleaner), organizes products built at the in-house machine shop, and stocks them. Since T.J. began the project in the off-season before last, the streamlined process has resulted in high productivity at the shop because crewmembers can walk directly to him rather than make trips to automotive or retail stores and decreased costs because he can buy products in bulk and monitor usage.
