Sixty-year-old criminal defense attorney Sam Bardwell of Titusville, Florida, routinely slept in a makeshift office apartment; however, hi; was awakened by the sound of a motion-triggered fan in his residence on April 30. The AHA Journal reponed that the experienced litigator hud dealt, with enough criminal clients to sense foul play, so he immediately went to retrieve his gun. Bardwell armed himself and confronted two intruders, who promptly fled the scene. Bardwell fired at them, but his shot hit a nearby stop sign.
Police later arrested two suspects with the help of a helicopter. Those suspects are also alleged to he involved with five other burglaries that occurred the same night. The two suspects face charges for armed burglary, grand theft, two counts of grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of crack cocaine, as well as other charges.
